Cricket had a birthday recently. Her requested "cake" was tiramisu, for which we have a pretty good recipe and which the girls enjoy helping to prepare. In fact, this year they did most of the work, even to the point of bicycling down to the local hyper-marché with Dave to buy the crucial ingredients: ladyfingers and mascarpone. The tiramisu was delicious, though a couple days later Cricket was still finding dried blobs of egg white on the kitchen wall.
Dave's Aunt Sarah and Uncle Tom happened to be visiting from the US, so they joined in the birthday festivities. Here, Tom is helping Molly construct a birthday mobile of origami cranes that now hangs above our bed.
Betsy, for her part, drew a birthday card all by herself. We wish that she could retain the ability to draw like this forever -- we love this picture. (She drew a similar one for Dave's birthday one week later, to be seen in a future post.)Following the presentation of the handmade presents, there were birthday hugs all around.

Happy birthday, dear Cricket!
I have loved your recent posts, guys--the porcupines, the avant-garde dancing by CE2--wish that we were there with you!
Grosses bises,
Laura
