Poisson d'avril

The morning of April 1, around breakfast Molly came out of her room and gave Dave a nice big hug. How nice, he thought. My little girl is giving me a hug. The day before my birthday and everything. She's growing up fast, but she's still my little girl.

That sneaky little &#*!@ stuck a fish to my back!

You see, the French also celebrate April Fool's Day, but the traditional joke is to stick a fish onto someone else's back, which is known as a poisson d'avril, or fish of April.

We (the Hunters) have our own April Fool's tradition, three years and counting, which is to eat dessert for dinner and dinner for dessert. Cricket, ever resourceful, managed to adapt the local ingredients to the task. As a result, we had our traditional evening meal of meatloaf cupcakes with colored mashed potato frosting. For dessert we had angel food french fries with raspberry sauce from a ketchup bottle.
