Christine (and the chicken and baguettes she brought for our dinner) was waiting to greet us at her friend Katia's phenomenal house, where Katia is graciously letting us live while she takes a vacation in the USA. Despite the fact that she has put herself on a strict post-vacation diet, she also brought us croissants and some delicious , melt-in-your-mouth bites of sweetness called chouquettes. We need a Field Guide to Parisian Pastry to tick off one at a time. Mmmmmmmm....

The extraordinarily patient and generous Christine has now spent hours of her life explaining Paris to a family of four who don't speak much French. She speaks very slowly and clearly, helps us with grammar, pretends to understand whatever the hell we're saying, and even switches into English periodically. She has also been seen helping these newcomers buy Métro tickets after orienting them to the local supermarché.
