Collégiale Saint-Liphard

Another thing we did while Alan and Linda were visiting was to visit a town near home called Meung-sur-Loire. I'm sure there was some reason that we had originally decided to go there -- I think it was all of the mills there -- but when we got there we just parked the car and walked around, which turned out to be great. In addition to a REALLY helpful tourist information office, we found a lovely church there called the Collégiale Saint-Liphard. These pictures show the nave and the apse of the church. (Not sure which is which? Check your church vocabulary!)

We really liked this church -- interesting yet much simpler than the sometimes garishly ornate edifices that attract scores of tourists; and imposing yet not outlandishly huge as though designed by the 12th-century equivalent of the Texas chamber of commerce. In fact, it almost seemed cozy inside. Oh, and it's old: In 2004 they held a commemoration of its 900th anniversary. Plus, there is a sarcophagus sitting off in a corner that dates from the sixth century, just to remind the rest of the church not to get too cocky about the whole 1104 thing.
