Wanksgiving dance party

We did have Thanksgiving dinner here in France. Since Thursday was a regular work/school day but the kids don't have school on Wednesdays, we had it the Wednesday just before the actual holiday. So we're calling it Wanksgiving.

We teamed up with another couple who are neighbors of ours. Lori is American (from Lancaster Pennsylvania in fact!) and David grew up here in Olivet. David is also the guitarist in a local rock band called La Jarry (that's "Zhah-ry"). La Jarry has a web site and a MySpace page. Their second CD is due out next March, and there are some sound clips on those web sites in case you'd like to hear what French rock music sounds like. Molly and Betsy love it, but more on that later.

David and Lori were able to find a (delicious!) turkey from a local farm. In addition, Cricket's good friend Christine was here for the occasion from the U.S. and she had managed to smuggle some canned pumpkin and cranberry sauce through the French customs juggernaut (seriously, as far as we can tell, passing through French customs is about like walking from your bedroom to the bathroom pulling a rolling suitcase, except you're likely to face more questions about the luggage in your own house.) All in all, we were able to put together a really nice Wanksgiving dinner, and all seven of us contributed in some way.

David brought along his iPod with the songs from his group's soon-to-be-released second album. This being Wanksgiving, we broke with tradition, forgoing the more sedate post-prandial nap/stroll in favor of a much hipper mosh pit.

Most parents, at some point, get to embarrass their children publicly, and now we have the internet to help. The kids love this video now, but wait until their prom dates see it...
